Swim Meet 101

Warm-Ups

Home team warm-ups: 4:45-5:10pm

Visiting team warm-ups: 5:10-5:35pm

What to Bring
The meets are long, lasting until 9:30 or 10pm. We would suggest your swimmer bring:

  • Gator Team Suit (if ordered) or a black one-piece suit for girls or black jammer for boys is acceptable.
  • 1-2 goggles
  • 1-2 towels
  • Team t-shirt
  • Folding chair(s)
  • Plenty of water
  • A lunch with plenty of snacks, fruits, and veggies
  • Sun protection
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather

Swimmers should eat a healthy afternoon meal and limit sodas and sweets until after the meet. The most important thing for a swimmer to do is stay hydrated! Certain clubs may have their own rules regarding food and drinks. Parents will be notified prior to the meet regarding specific rules for other venues.

Expectations

It is the expectation of the Lake Wylie Gators Swim Team and your coaches that each swimmer and family will do the following:

  • Please remember that each swimmer and family is a representative of the Lake Wylie Gators and should act with integrity during all meets and pre- and post-meet functions.
  • Always display good sportsmanship.
  • Please do not run on the pool deck.
  • We must leave every meet and club better than we found it.
  • Please clean up around yourself before leaving (even if it isn’t your trash).
  • 10 & Under swimmers need to stay in their designated team area until they complete all their events for the meet. We ask that all parents help keep an eye on the children, especially the younger ones, who are not swimming. As the saying goes, it takes a village.

Throughout the meet, events will be run in order by age group and gender: 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18. Girl’s events are first, followed by the boys.
